"Minush"

Minush is the story of a young woman named Minush strolling down a street in Rhodes carrying a basket of carnations, some red, some pink and some white. A young man falls in love with her and hopes her "Mazel" will go far beyond where the arrows from his bow can fall. (though the song is mostly sung in Ladino here is an example of Hebrew words interspersed with the old Spanish dialect still used in the Sephardic communities).

Judith traveled to Turkey to do research on the Jewish community with the musical director and vocalist of Voices of Sepharad, David Harris. They were able to meet wtih many wonderful people in the Sephardic community. In addition, Judith found fabrics and cloaks in the old style of clothing used by Sephardic women including the coat she uses in this dance.
